Mr. G.C. Sharma was appointed as the private architect to the New Delhi Municipal Committee in 1947. He was recruited for preparing plans of Municipal building schemes to avoid delays which frequently occur when such works are entrusted to officials of C.P.W.D. Originally, it was the duty of the Consulting Architect to the Government of India, who is a member of the New Delhi Municipal Committee, but given his unavailability to be able to work on the plans, a private architect was hired.
Later, contributions of GC Sharma are also found at the St Stephens College, which was primarily designed by Walter George, an architect with the Delhi Improvement Trust.
